The gameplay is inexcusable this time around. Though I think the FPS issue is not the main problem at all. That can be patched or fixed with a port later on.

I do agree that the main story is good, though I actually went out to sell the game after I had to sit through two USA government mandated speeches where York shits on a black man and a child for daring to misgender a man with a penis who claims to be a woman, and the black priest selling HRT medication to said tranny. The store turned out to be closed so I actually powered through the rest of the game and the storyline does get a lot better.
Too bad Swery is not going to have a career after this because after all the preaching, York goes on to refer to the tranny as a man as well and also "deadnames" him which means he's gonna get cancelled sooner rather than later. I can see someone on resetera "outing" him as a sexual molester or something quite soon, as soon as some video calling out the deadnaming shows up on youtube I'd say.
All the black people in the game also have "offensive" accents lmao. (despite everyone having loud accents in the game.)

Here's my issue with the game. Yes the original DP had pretty bad gameplay, but that's only in the sense that the action sequences were a last minute addition dictated by the producers, so they came off as very bland and boring.
The game did give you tools to deal with that though, some weapons were hilariously overpowered and would get you through the action stages quite fast.

The meat of the 'gameplay' in the first game was actually exploring the town, having interactions with characters who would roam around town and give you different dialogue depending on where you met them, visiting their houses, doing side quests for them and what not. Each sidequest also had a tangible reward in terms of stronger weapons, faster cars, cosmetics (suits), or money.
The main collectable in the first game was silly trading cards.

In the sequel, everything that is outside of the main story (which basically just involves going to certain places to watch cutscenes and occasionally play an action sequence) is a complete grind with no purpose whatsoever. You can't enter people's houses, they don't roam around the town (just teleport around during loading screens), you barely get any dialogue out of them, and every sidequest is just a MMO-style grind for materials or a quest for one specific item that is found in the same way as the MMO style materials, just walking around the map with no rhyme or reason collecting little sparkly things on the ground.

It is mind numbing but it's aggravated by the fact that the only reward for these, are upgrades for your one gun or upgrades to your health and such, which serve no purpose whatsoever since the game has only one difficulty setting and it's so easy I never actually died once and completed every chapter with an S rank without trying. You don't get any funny character interactions either, nor do you get any more details about the story or the game world. Just grinding out a million fragments of something to make a slightly bigger thing that gives you a 1% stat increase which you won't ever need, because the game is piss easy.

The action sequences which were already shitty even got a downgrade in that at least the ones in DP1 were visually interesting. This time around all four of them are just recycled from the same assets over and over again, as you play through them with your one and only weapon. The action sequences in DP1 also had York collect clues through the level, while here he just divines the happenings out of magic halfway through the level. Not to mention every alternative gameplay segment like chase sequences and what not is gone.

While the FPS issues are obviously technical, the game design itself feels completely misguided because while I know that people liked the open world aspect of DP1, I don't think anyone wanted a focus on farming and crafting to replace character interactions and goofy scenes, especially if said crafting is ultimately completely pointless (because, again, the game plays itself. The different weapons in DP1 at least gave you different ways of navigating the levels, or made it easier to complete some of the harder challenges.)

DP1 had one minigame which was playing darts, which you only needed to play three times if you ever wanted to get 100% completion. DP2 has three different minigames, two of which (bowling and stone skipping) don't actually work properly due to said technical issues. Not only that but each of the three minigames is also a complete grind that you'll have to replay a dozen times and the rewards are, as usual, just more crafting items.

How do you get suits now? Well they are rewards for getting some hidden achievements. These achievements all involve grinding hundreds of enemies or materials of course.

I honestly don't understand what the fuck they could have been thinking with this, it is legitimately one of the worst games I have actually played and the people who claim that the original "was just as bad" and that "it's part of the charm" are completely delusional. Nothing in this game is worth shit it except for the main storyline, I wish they just made it into a movie game like D4, or at least ripped off the open world from DP1 as is.

For clarification, the offensive part is that the tranny man character is revealed to be the lost son of the clarkson family in the game. Therefore he is referred to with his birth name, leonard clarkson, to reveal his affiliation with the family.
This is now unacceptable, because it violates the rights of a made up tranny character in fiction, so it must be rectified.
However, said tranny character uses heavy drugs to coerce his sister into chopping her own underage daughter to pieces with an axe while she's still alive. This is perfectly fine and acceptable, and doesen't need to be changed.

I wouldn't trust what Swery says. IMO I think he's had his mind turned into mush by hanging out with English speaking Twatter & Facefuck a little too much. It's similar to what Metal Gear Solid 5 was saying about how language is culture & even the langauges you speak forcefeed to you narratives that you otherwise would've never paid any relevance to had you not spoken or understood that language. I get the graphics were a big deal at the time but they actually make the game confusing to me at times, as in, I don't actually know for sure where I will connect to a platform.
I never played the modern ones, though I did hear good things about them. DK64 was boring too lol.

I remember getting some shit for raccomending DP back in the day, though I don't think I've ever said it's similar to Killer7. I do remember saying that the intro to D4 reminded me of Flower Sun and Rain though.

I don't think Swery and Suda are similar at all. I don't even think Swery is trying to be profound or anything. He just liked to make these goofy, occasionally slightly creepy adventures with "quirky" characters.
I liked his first three games, Spy Fiction, Deadly Premonition and D4. I think making D4 into a slightly more involved moviegame was the right choice.
I didn't like the missing at all, though it's not because of the tranny (DP1 had a tranny as well, I think swery just has a fetish for transvestites lol. He is in his 50s and still unmarried) but it's mostly because the game was so slow and the puzzles were pretty uninspired, I'm pretty sure I unintentionally broke a few of them just because the physics are so wonky. I think I played about half of that game, then I turned it off.
I still stand by my words that DP is good for what it is. The combat is pretty shit but again, that's about 20% of the actual game and you can easily trivialize it. As a goofy twin peaks clone (that does however lack the depth of twin peaks) where you can explore a town and do all sorts of dumb shit, it's perfectly fine.
Everything about DP2 outside of the main storyline is awful on any metric imaginable. Again I don't know who the fuck thought it was a good idea to turn all side content into a grind for better stats, as if it were an RPG lol. Stats don't matter at all because there's a total of three combat scenarios in the game and they play themselves even with base stats.
It's fucking crazy but other than that, the more I think about it the more I'm not sure I like the main storyline either. I like that it got way darker and moodier than anything else swery made, but the more I think about it the more a lot of stuff didn't make any sense at all. I'm guessing the project must have been mismanaged because some plot points are just dropped out of nowhere, like I remember in chapter 3 going around fixing water pumps but then the game derails into a completely different direction and whatever I did is never brought up again. During one chapter, Zach makes a big deal about "sanctuaries" that are clearly part of his delusions or madness, but even that's never brought up again either.
I thought it was funny how York would preach to everyone about trans rights (even equating the trans rights movement to the civil rights movement and claiming that his negro slave should be more understanding because his people have gone through the same thing lol.) but then he was mean as shit to the actual tranny, calling him a crazy man and all sorts of shit. All of that is getting cut out though, because noone is allowed to be mean to a character who drugged up his family members to convince them to torture and kill other family members.
The tranny man actually fucks his own sister, concieves a child with her, then poisons her through the course of 8 years until she becomes a morbidly obese retard woman with the mind of a child, then he makes her other sister chop her own daughter to pieces with an axe while she's still alive. I liked 4 and 4A (the latter more than the former) but they felt like side stories, the overall universe didn't really advance past 3. SMT5 seems to pick up after the true demon ending of SMT3, with Lucifer having won the celestial war against the great will / axiom, I suspect it will just end up being law/neutral/chaos again under different names but I'm still more interested in this than any other upcoming game

Every physical game I own is a Nintendo game, except for Friday the 13th. I don't have anything unique though.
It's jsut Smash Bros, Zelda BOTW, Xenoblade 1, Xenoblade 2, Xenoblade 2 Torna, & Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.
I plan to get the Mario 3d collection, & Metroid Prime collection when they finally get anounced & BoTW 2, and the next Xenoblade and the next Fire Emblem. My fave Switch exclusive games so far are Smash Bros & Xenoblade 2. XB DE is good too, but you can clearly tell that it's an oldass game from a decade ago. It reminds me of Final Faggotry 12, but darker & edgier. You're fighting against a Terminator army. XB2's apocalyptic scenario was more like an Environmentalist threat, because you're trying to search for Elysium before all of the Titans die out.
What I found so damn poetic is how all the titans die out anyway, but they form Pangaea, revealing that XB2 is actually Earth.

Streets of Rage 4 is really good, and prob in my top 5, but that's multiplatform.

I still don't give a shit. Sure I'll buy it coz it's a Nintendo exclusive, but who fucking cares? When Xenoblade exists, and those games have way better gameplay and story than any SMT has ever had. SMT has Wizardry for babies' gameplay, & this little kid's comprehension of religion. The entirety of XB2's plot plays out like an interpretation of religion, but a mature minded one, that doesn't mindlessly lash out at the creator. One thing that made XB2 really unique to me is that by the time you get to the final boss, you're already much stronger than him, but your dogmatic paths clash so much that you're left with no choice but to continue fighting coz the final boss ceases to have an existance worth living for if he just gives up now.

I like how the last 2 or 3 chapters, the entire Torna group are all trying to get you to talk some sense into Malos. It's unique to me, because most Jrpgs usually have EMO last bosses, but XB2's final boss is a Chad, who controls a Xenogear, lol.
That's another thing that was cool as hell. In the final 2 or 3 rooms of XB2, the game suddenly turns into Xenoblade 1 and the battle music is just the common battle music from XB1, but it sounds so epic in XB2, since XB2's music is mostly Jrock.
XB's gameplay is like a MMO, but since you can't pause the game during battles, you have to plan everything out ahead of time and rely on quick reflexs to punch in the attacks to keep the combo going. XB1 is much easier, since they actually tell you which attacks keep the combo going through an exclamation mark. XB1 also has no relex-based inputs at all wheres the entirety of XB2's combo wants you to punch buttons through a rhythmtic beat, whcih is why some people deride XB2 as a Dance Dance revolution game.
XB2's combat is more than just the rhythm though. You're also managing the meters & keeping track of what your allies do so you can better synergize with them.


SMTV hero looks like a fucking girl. Switch is turning into a Jrpg system, coz damn near every game I own is a Jrpg. It's all the same series though, Xenoblade. Mofukka you missing out, constantly ignoring that shit.

Then when finally get to the last two chapters, Xenovalde 2 suddenly becomes grim as fuck and turns into Xenogears, lol.

Xenovlade 1, I feel like I'm playing a game version of the Neverending Story or The Dark Crystal.

Donkey Kong Country kicks ass. Fuck you. It's basically Super Mario hard mode. Even as an Adult, you have to think to play through those games. Least that's the case with Returns & Tropical Freeze.
