It's obvious to see that Smash Bros. has transitioned from "celebrate Nintendo's history" to "celebrate gaming history." Which is no surprise since K. Rool was from all evidence that LAST Nintendo character to add who's decently known among normal people not just circlejerkers/echo chamber dwellers on shitpiles like GameFAQs. Everyone else in Nintendie is just stragglers. Having Daisy be playable as an Echo Fighter pushes it and you'll be sure she'll be on the chopping block for the future outside of another Tekken Tag style game.
They ran out of the characters who are known in the real world and now they'll keep focus on 3rd Parties with shown success franchises like Splatoon.

Nintendo Switch sales are now over 70 million units sold. It beat the shit out of Xbox One.

Sounds fun. But i often hear that Nintendo "killed splatoon". So, what happened?
Stop being intriqued by it, and actually buy these shitty games. Once you have, the sooner you realize that Mario & Zelda actually are their best games, coz damn near everything else that Modern Nintendo makes is overrated 6 out of 10 garbage that Nintenlards love to overrate the fuck out of, coz they seem to love every mediocre game that Nintendo shits out, just coz of the Nintendo name brand. Even Zelda is overrated as fuck, but I can understand why everyone loves it. BOTW is basically a little kid version of a sandbox game.
Spla-toon is so overrated because you don't even have to shoot opponents to win the match. You can win by simply painting more of the background than you opponent did. That video you linked to aren't even actual advanced techniques when you can easily do them when you loadout the gun with those specific abilities.
The actual guns are locked out from you until you've grinded to a certain level.
I'd much rather be playing Overwatch (Which actually flopped on the Switch, lol.), coz at least that game doesn't lock out weapons from you through a boring ass level grind. OW doesn't even have custom loadouts anyway, but its entire roster is unlocked from the start. OW is trash anyway, but Splatoon is worse.
At least OW has decent shooting though. Splatoon's gunplay feels like one of those cheap third person shooters, like the new G.I. Joe where aiming doesn't matter at all. It feels really mindless.
Now granted, you do change your strategy depending on the guns you've equipped but being that Splatoon is an always online game, what that means is that we all usually pick the same exact guns. Splatoon is no different in this regard, most squads usually have nothing but snipers, SMGs & those annoying assholes who run around everywhere meleeing you to death, just like a normal shooter lol.
Too bad It's practically a shooter that's either designed for little kids, or casuals who hate shooters.
Kinda reminds me of this thread, where the main subject is that you don't see more DS style games, coz Switch gamers are generally casuals. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/18 ... h/79145772
I never understood what 'hardcore gamer' actually meant within Xbox, Playstation & PC masterace context until I played Splatoon 2 this year, when Nintendo let you downloaded the entire online PvP (you can even play competitive mode once you meet the requirements.) & Co-op modes for free, for an entire month.
That month was long enough for I to decide that it wasn't meant for me coz the gameplay is so fucking shallow.
There's no aiming, it's a run & gun, and the shooting is about on par with Ratchet & Clank, in the sense that it's more about the spectacle of the shooting rather than the actual play mechanics governed around the shooting.
There is explosions everywhere and there's many different ways to win a match. I guess that's what really gets to me though, coz I don't believe that you should be able to win, just from merely shooting the fucking background. That's how lil kid, Splatoon is. Who needs aim? When you can just shoot the background or mop the floor? There is a strategy to it, since the opposing team can just respray your territory with their color of paint.
It's just really not for me, coz I prefer shooters to actually fucking revolve around shooting.
Not this goddamn casual gaming bullshit.
That's really Nintendo's biggest problem. Most of their games are little kid easy mode casual bullshit.
They do actually try to make games for adults but what's the point when they don't sell? Bayonetta 2 only sold 370k copies on the Switch, AYY LMAO!
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 only sold a Million, which is bad for a Marvel game. It's actually one of the better Marvel games though, ruined by its stupid ISO crap which is why I got rid of it. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to make an Action game, that refuses to let you play the game until you do all of this boring menu micromanagement first? It's like make up your fucking mind. Is this an action game or a rpg? The game's own devs didn't even seem to know, with the way they designed it.
Metroid Prime 4 will be the deciding factor for me, and it better have multiplayer. I don't need to hear no shit from Metroid nostalgia tards crying about Metroid doesn't need multiplayer when fucking Luigi's Mansion 3 has multiplayer, and is also an atmospheric game. It's the biggest problem with the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo fanbase are a bunch of autistic Lardasses.
I'm not saying all, just the more hardcore ones. Nintendo Switch actually is mainstream, I see a lot of normal people of all races buying the Switch, prob coz it's a portable system that can play games with 2010 era specs, but with 2002 levels of performance & optimization, lol.
My fucking Iphone runs Xcom 2 way better than the Switch can, AYY LMAO! On Switch, Xcom2 is constantly lagging for some reason.
Most people I've seen who buy Switch games come in 1 of 2 camps. They're either the Nintendo loyalist who buys nothing but Nintendo 1st party games, or the the type who will buy something like Animal Crossing, but buy it along side with Mortal Kombat 11 & FIFA. Mothafucking FIFA, I can't fucking get away from FIFA! LOL! No matter what system you're on, it's always goddamn FIFA that everyone buys.
I wish Arms had the fame that Spla-toon does, coz Arms actually has easy to pick up to play, but hard to master gameplay. For a fighting game, Arms sold well. It sold over 2 million copies.
Although was good, I'd only buy it for $20 coz that's how much I bought Tekken 7 & Street Fighter 5 for. Fighting games are usually cheap. You can buy MK11 on Switch for $11.
Spla-toon doesn't seem to have much of a skill ceiling when compared to Arms. Sure, more experienced players will easily murk you, but that's due to be better team cohesion & synergy rather than actual player skills.
It's no replacement for Quake, Unreal Tournament, TimeSplitters or even Call of Duty. There's a reason why on the Switch, I see far more people playing Fortnite, Warface or Rogue Company on Switch, because those games are actual shooters. It's funny coz Warface is legit shit, but even I play it coz it's the closest thing that Switch has to a Call of Duty/ Medal of Honor style game.
You're being wowed & amazed by Splatoon's presentation, but the moment you play the game is when you start to see that it's just a generic shooter, that isn't even up to date with current shooters. It's the story of Nintendo's life, they're so stuck inside of their own bubble, that nearly everything they do is 10 years behind every one else, lol.
That's certainly the case with their online service, which is why I haven't bothered to re subscribe yet.
Speaking of which, Splatoon's connection constantly dropped on me, which annoyed me to no end, but this happens with every Nintendo 1st party game, coz Nintendo themselves are fucking clueless when it comes to online.
The only reason that Nintendo are still kings is coz nobody else out there can make a 1 player game on the same level that Nintendo can. Mario 64 & Mario Galaxy are easily better than most games I've played on PS4, and those two games are fucking ancient but I played them for the first time through Mario All Stars.
Nintendo is actually trash with everything else though.
Why is it so hard to finally have a decent shooter & a decent wrestling game on the Switch?
The best shooters on Switch, are the Free to Play games, lol.
Everyone else in Nintendie is just stragglers
These days the Nintendo reps work as advertisements for their other games. Byleth actually drove more people to buy Fire Emblem 3H, although its own fanbase denies that, LOL! They think FE became 'popular' of its own accord, conveniently ignoring that Fire Emblem has the 2nd most Smash reps after Mario. Mario only has more under a technicality, if you consider Donkey Kong & his crew as part of the Mario universe, to which they technically are.
Fire Emblem fags actually claim that in Japan, the Big 3 are Mario, Pokemon & Fire Emblem.
That's hilarious coz the best selling Fire Emblem game only sold 3 million copies, which is low when compared to Zelda, even in Japan.
Zelda is not unpopular in Japan, Zelda is just less popular when contrasted with Zelda's fame in the West. Zelda is still big in Japan though.
They ran out of the characters who are known in the real world and now they'll keep focus on 3rd Parties with shown success franchises like Splatoon.
What do you base 'normal' off of? It's mostly little kids who play Splatoon, lol. (Funny coz it's also mostly little kids who play Call of Duty, but I'd much rather be playing COD over Splat. Even Cod Zombies is way better than Splat's Salmon Run.)
I understand the gist of your comment since you seem to be referring to extreme niche picks like Geno, that I only ever see losers on internet begging for. I loved Geno too when I was a kid, and that's what I find sad about it. The people crying for Geno must be around my age (37), LOL! Yet they're begging for some character that barely anyone knows, like a bunch of little kids.
Just because Splatoon 2 sold over 11 million copies doesn't mean that it's known in the real world. I think most of the sales came from the some reason that I wanted to buy it, it's Nintendo's only 1st party shooter on the Switch so that naturally drives people towards buying it, but I rarely see anyone stick with it.
I only know about two people on the Switch who had over 500 hours in Splatoon 2, but I sure as hell don't see them play it any more. They both have over 5000 hours in Fortnite & Paladins.
Which makes sense, those games are just about as skillless as Splatoon is, lol. It's just that I'd argue they're both much more complex games than Splatoon 2. A common pattern that you see with Nintendo games, is that most of their games would've been overlooked by everyone had it not been a Nintendo exclusive.
This also has a reverse effect. I think stuff like MUA3 could've easily sold 3 million copies due to the Marvel brand alone, had it been multi-platfrom. Instead of being stuck on the Switch, a system that can't actually handle MUA3, lol. Age of Calamity's optimization is even worse than MUA3's.
Daemon X Machina is a way better game than Splatoon imo, yet that game universally shitted on when it was a Switch exclusive. People didn't finally start to love DxM until it came to PC coz PC gamers actually have taste, lol.
DxM wasn't a great game, not by a long shot, it's still better than Splatoon.
On Switch, nearly every Nintentard review I saw gave DxM a 4 out of 10, LOL! I don't understand where that comes from either. PC reviews make much more sense since most of them gave DxM a 7-9 out of 10.
I'd personally give DxM a 7. Which is pretty high from me, since I even think that stuff like Xenoblade (both XB1 & 2. XB2 is only a 9 with the Season pass.) is a 6 out of 10 at best.
You wanna know what was the main complaint that Nintentoddlers had about DxM? They called it a generic shooter, AYY LMAO! That's funny to me, coz Splatoon actually plays like an extremely generic shooter, it's just presented as a wild & wacky game, where the skill ceiling is so low that you can win matches by painting the fucking background.
Honestly I'd rather have Xenoblade over another Splatoon rep. Shulk's play style was already unique (He chooses his own buffs without the need for an item.), but Rex's gimmick could go several ways. They could make him like Pokemon Trainer or a duo-set like Ice Climbers & Rosalina. He'd be a character with a unique gimmick at least especially if they make him play like XB2 (as in his moves get stronger & more over the top, the further that he has synergized with his whores.), what disqualifies him though is that Pyra wears a thong. Mythra already has a censored outfit as a costume armor & Pyra does as well, but their censored versions don't visually stand out as much.
You're the one who started that vidya gayming stories thread right? Yeah I'll have to post on it sometime coz there's lots I need to say about writing in gaming, and why it's always shit. It partly has to do with the audience.
Oh btw that Crapcom Arcade Stadium game is shit. You have to buy them 3 volumes a piece, LOL! (Most likely $20 each, DERP! https://gonintendo.com/stories/374071-c ... s-detailed
I can already emulate that entire collection on Super Retrocade, which allows me to play it on muh tv in HD.
Nobody ever makes 50 game collections any more. They always piecemeal everything now, and it's always overpriced, coz it usually cost the same amount as a 50 game collection did from the PS2 era, but you get much less games, and even shittier emulation.

I tried to like splatoon but nah
If they have wings so you can fly , or under water levels.
I mean something new as for splatoon3, if no it gets boring really fast
Lol is so true, my family owns like 4 switches
I bought 3 of those and just to play fornite, animal crossing
They have splatoon 2, arms but never play them
Nowdays Nintendo has really big competition, nintendo just focus in a universal appeal
Now that maybe they try to appeal a bigger demographic as mature audiences, they don't have a capacity
I was expecting bayoneta to sell more lol
Even though platinum games don't sell that much just look as wonderful 101 multiplaform

Sales data, social media commentary, Youtube, etc. Something like Donkey Kong Country is overall notably more recognized than something like Fire Emblem when K. Rool's reveal trailer easily breaks a million views while most FE games don't sell that much.

They were just spoiled with Smash Wii U/3DS having characters like Palutena and Corrin and Bayonetta (easily niche character who got in from Sakurai's favoritism, FE character, 3rd Party who got in from Sakurai's friendship with her maker). Obviously that was just a one-time thing and the suits gave Sakurai mandates on newcomers (needs significant and measurable demand, 3rd Parties have to be decently successfully and active/legacy series).

One wise man on Twitter pointed out that a "fandom" was a sign your work is either shitty or dead. It turns out that Sephiroth is like a reskinned Palutena. That's good, I'll actually play him. It means that he'll have epic mind games & traps. His up smash has even more range than Palutena's laser beam, that's just how long his sword is lol.
He even has a similar weakness, their smashs are too damn slow so the secret to getting good as them is to use the rest of your move set to bait them into your smash attacks.
Seph is a light character but hits like a truck, similar to Lucina. His move set is more like Palutena in that optimal play with him seems to revolve around aggressive zoning & footsies.
Seph's projectile moves hit harder than Palutena but he actually has to aim. He also has an attack where his projectile will stick on an opponent and harm other characters who are near the opponent.
I see Seph as being a master of controlling space like Palutena, but he has much stronger melee due to his super armor. Palutena only has super armor with her dash attack, where she literally knocks you down with a shield, so she's actually using armor.
I might main him. He's like Palutena but better and Palutena is already high tier. So much so, that she's constantly getting debuffed but she still wrecks everyones ass. https://www.proguides.com/super-smash-b ... haracters/
I dunno if Seph's a definite S-tier, his large hitbox & light-weight might make him a big target. Seph has legit one hit kill moves though. Palutena is more of the type who will annoy the shit out of you with constant distractions but then murder the shit out of you when her Ultimate is charged up. Is like the 2nd cheapest attack in the game, lol. I think Zero Slut Samus has an even more annoying Ult coz Samus can track you. Lucina's is the most annoying, coz it's a one hit kill. It can easily be dodged though.
You don't dodge Palutena & Slutty Samus, you have to be completely out of the danger zone with those two.
Part of what makes Palutena so good is that she can constantly run away from you, but still keep on hitting you no matter what distance you're at. She has a move for every distance, even at point blank melee. She's actually really dangerous to face at point blank range. Her melee isn't strong, but she stuns you long enough to melt you with a fire ball right after.

Me too. I thought Bayo 2 sold at least 2 million copies. It didn't even reach 500k, damn! Switch gamers really aren't into hardcore games though. It's prob why they spam that Musou shit so much coz that garbage actually does sell over 500k nearly every single time.
I'm staying with Switch coz they're the only portable hybrid machine and I have 0 interest in PS5 & XseriesX.
Sales data, social media commentary, Youtube, etc. Something like Donkey Kong Country is overall notably more recognized than something like Fire Emblem when K. Rool's reveal trailer easily breaks a million views while most FE games don't sell that much.
Of those you mentioned, Sales data is the only reliable indicator, especially since it comes directly from Nintendo's yearly annual reports. Donkey Kong Country is actually a B tier franchise like Metroid, Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem, etc. It just has more nostalgia due to also being a Legacy franchise. Everyone knows Donkey Kong. My mom was playing Donkey Kong, long before I was even born.
DK isn't that popular within social media. https://trends.google.com/trends/explor ... e%20Emblem
It's no contest. DKC is a way better series, but according to you, social media decides what's popular, but social media doesn't like DK much, This here proves that Fire Emblem is more 'popular' if you actually take social media seriously, LOL! (I Don't, at all!)
I'd argue that Fire Emblem has more internet-presence, if only due to the nasty tranny fanbase that it attracts. Trannies are the most active group in modern social media (because social media bans everyone else.), which is why I don't understand why you take social media so seriously.
Would anyone in their right mind actually argue that Overwatch is more popular than Zelda though?
This is why you can't trust social media. When you see a youtube scrub with 100k subs, in reality they only have about 40k subs (which is still a lot. That's double the amount of people that Madison Square Garden can hold.), the rest are bots and/or multiple accounts. Youtube & Twitter both overly inflate the numbers of their active user accounts. Facebook actually doesn't, there's a lot of fake accounts but the numbers are much more realistic and only amount to 50k at the most.
I don't give a fuck about social media, jootube or any of that nonsense. Do you not realize that most commentators are just shills, being paid off by corporations to suck off their products? That's why most youtubers sound the same, look the same & act the same.
Nearly everything within the current Triumvirate of Google/Youtube, Twitter & Facebook are being managed & manipulated through AI bot algorithms.
Social media can work as a good indicator of anecdotal evidence though the shared experiences of your immediate social circle. That's how I define what's popular on Switch, by looking at what people in my friends list are currently playing. (I have way more friends in PSN & Switch than this site has posters.)
This is how I determine that it's actually Fortnite that's the most popular shooter on Switch, not Splatoon. I look at the volume of the people playing it and for how long. I only know of a few who played Splatoon for 500 hours, but they're still playing the fuck out of Fortnite & Paladins. Fortnite is regularly at oer 3000 hours, Paladins is at over 1000 hours avg per player that I've seen.
Lord who knows why peeps keep playing those trash games when Rogue Company exists, A REAL ASS SHOOTER where your aim decides whether you live or die! Fortnite & Paladins are too gimmicky but still way better than Splatoon which is also gimicky, and has nothing to do with actual skill.
Splatoon seems to be a game that people buy for their kids and then it gets dropped after a month when they stop paying for the Nintendo online sub. Why bother when you can play Fortnite for free, and Fortnite has better gameplay. Fortnite fucking sucks, but Spatoon is worse.
They were just spoiled with Smash Wii U/3DS having characters like Palutena and Corrin and Bayonetta (easily niche character who got in from Sakurai's favoritism, FE character, 3rd Party who got in from Sakurai's friendship with her maker).
Palutena is a legacy character. She's been around since the 8bit NES days, she's as old as Zelda, Link or Samus.
She would've eventually been included anyway coz she's the 2nd most recognizable Kid Icarus character after Pit. Who else are you going to give her moveset to anyway? She plays like a god and she is a god.
Calling her niche, is the same as calling Samus Aran niche. They're from franchises that both only sell 1 million copies, but that was a lot back in the 1980s.
They're both solid Legacy characters from Nintendo B Tier (in terms of fames & sales numbers.) franchises.
I make fun of FIre Emblem a lot, coz its fanbase tries to exaggerate how popular FE is, when it's only popular on internet.
FE is just B-league like Kid Icarus, Kirby, Donkey Kong & Metroid. Donkey Kong was A-league back in the SNES era, but now it only sells about as many copies as a Kirby game.(2-3 million range.)
One wise man on Twitter pointed out that a "fandom" was a sign your work is either shitty or dead. Point is, Splatoon not having a "fandom" as grotesque as Sonic the Hedgehog's is a pro for it since it means the content is enough (unlike Sonic with its shitty games, Metroid being in an awkward position, etc.).
Xed said something similar about how every fanbase has its corefans who are actually the most ignorant & shallow fans who don't actually like the ip in question.
If you go out of your way to pander to audience members you can only ever produce garbage, because the greatest part of the public will always exclusively latch on to the most superficial aspects of a property. Namely things that can be written down in a wiki as factual information, quotes, or even basic colors and geometrical shapes. Which is exactly what you see in those comments you mentioned. WHO'S GONNA PUNCH THE HARDEST IN THIS CORPORATE SATIRE??? SUPERHEROES ARE FUCKING COOL! I CLAPPED WHEN THEY PUNCHED THE NAZI WOMAN!!! Damn, she really liked like anakin skywalker there... EASTER EGG! I KNOW THE THING!!! AHAH CORPORATIONS ARE TAKING OVER THE GOVERNMENT AND LAWMAKERS ARE IN BED WITH THEM TO DEREGULATE THEIR ENDLESS PURCHASING POWER THAT ALLOWS THEM TO SWAY VOTING BLOCKS IN FAVOUR OF MALLEABLE TALKING HEAD POLITICIANS, SUPERHEROES YAY
Unfortunately, modern audiences only really understand pandering and they will go out of their way to bitch about not being serviced enough on social media.
Just see how the biggest criticism to the last of us 2 is that it didn't pander to joel fans. Not a peep about the fact that Naughty Dog has been producing some of the worst games ever made since the PS3 era, and how this garbage game is just one in a long line of linear story-driven slow-ass "shooter" where 70% of the "gameplay" consists in walking slowly from one cutscene to the next, while characters chat endlessly about garbage LOL!
The same thing is happening with star wars ironically. People bitch about how it didn't pander to the fanbase enough, when in my opinion, the problems with the new movies are mostly related to how they fucking suck ass as movies.
They just relate to surface value qualities of said property.
This isn't what I'm talking about though. You make this assumption that Splatoon were some how more worthy of inclusion in Smash simply coz it sold 11 million copies. I'd argue that it only sold that many, coz it's the only shooter that Nintentard currently makes. It could've been any shooter, although a much more mature shooter probably wouldn't have sold as much since most people buy Splatoon for their kids.
but that's still way more money than what Splatoon generates lol. https://www.esportsearnings.com/games/415-splatoon
Splatoon 1 only generated a little over $1000. Yeah what a famous game that nobody seems to give a fuck about outside of the Nintenlard echo-chamber.
This is exactly what I mean when I claim that nobody really plays Spla-toon except for kids.
No one is really making big money out of Splat-toon's competitive scene coz its play mechanics are a joke. "PAINT THE BACKGROUND TO WIN THE MATCH! WHO NEEDS AIM?"
My argument has always been that Nintenlards live inside of a bubble, Their games generally have inflated sales figures coz they make games that appeal to casuals.
Of the 3 best selling games on the Nintendo Switch, Mario Kart 8, Animal Crossing & Smash Bros Ultimate.
All 3 of them have sold almost as much as Counter Strike has, which is a legit popular game that everyone knows and its prize pots reflects that. https://www.esportsearnings.com/games/2 ... -offensive
Smash is the only one of the Switch 3, that can be considered hardcore, as in it appeals to people who play games for real. Smash has a deeper ruleset to be mastered by playing it. Mario Kart & Animal Crossing do not. I got bored of Mario Kart after 2 weeks, coz the gameplay isn't deep enough & I got bored.
Smash Ult has a prize pot that totals over 1 million, which is respectable and that's much higher than any fighting game ever, except for Smash Melee. https://www.esportsearnings.com/games/5 ... s-ultimate
I think it's much more accurate to gauge a games' popularity by the total amount of the money that it can generate through its competitive scene. A healthy competitive scene implies that enough people take it seriously to play it at the peak of its ruleset
Is this an accurate way to gauge relevance? No, Paladins does way better than Smash Ult but no one is going to argue that Paladins is the more popular game. It just makes more sense to judge a game's relevancy through the competitive scene, coz you're counting actual people who have put their money on the line to win big money in a game that they're competing in. We know that they're real people, who exist in real life because they have to appear in person, or at least filmed, playing the game to ensure that they are not cheating.
Social media numbers can easily be faked, because numbers can easily be faked through bots, fake accounts & smurfs/multiple accounts.
