Even more-so if you include Xenoblade series (including X) as part of the same continuity as Xenogears.
We're a combination of a Battlestar Galatica-like civilization (Xenoblade X, Xenoblade 1, Xenoblade 2 & Xenogears) that settled on terra, but that same civilization eventually built a simulation to simulate (Xenoblade 3) base-reality that we're all currently trapped within.
Xenoblade X has a more Ghost in the Shell interpretation of the same events, and it actually does show an Earthling exodus that eventually colonizes a planet similar to Earth with the added twist is that they're all Cyborgs controlling their cybernetic bodies through the souls of the lifepod.
This is similar to my real life belief that we're Spirits from outside of this realm, animating flesh as our avatars within base-reality.
