This place used to have a movie forum and a much more organized structure.
I have no idea where to post movies either. This is in response to the textbox.
There's a site called Midnight Eye that might give you a lot of recommends. Only jap movie I've seen recently was Godzilla Minus One, which was overrated as hell imo. I haven't really consumed any modern Jap entertainment after 2015, outside of video games.
Jap Crime is also a pretty wide spectrum.
Crow's Zero is considered crime, but it's basically just highschool delinquent crap
Takeshi Kitano's Sonatine & Hana-Bi are overall the best.
They're both extremely nihilistic films, but for some reason those two feel very spiritual
and it doesn't have that same Atheistic Vicious Animals operating only on instinct vibe that Ichi the Killer has.
I didn't really like Brother, but Takeshi Kitano's Brother is probably the one Jap movie I know of that does
a good job of showing what Jap gang culture is like. They outright gun down anyone who acts retarded like Wes Watson, and they try integrate the silent types into their work force since the point is to make money, not larp as a movie gangster. Which is what the American Japs in the movie do, they act like they're Scarface or some shit and just get unceremoniously killed due to their carelessness.
Quentin Tarantino would most likely have a lot of Jap crime films that he loves and knows from off the top of his head.
I remember that he's really into Lady Snowblood and that entire prison genre.
He reveres John Woo Hong Kong films and he's what got me into Woo.
1970s in general had a huge genre of Japanese Crime movie which were actually dark. None of them were as dark as Ichi the Killer. You have to go to the 80s for that but that's more Crime Horror with actual monsters or demons.
I don't recall any 80s horror film names off hand.
Yes I've seen Ichi the Killer. I loved that movie when I was a kid, by kid I mean when I was in my early 20s. (Although I still look the same age, I don't feel the same age. I was a militant Atheist during that era, although it didn't reflect in either my writing or posts.)
When I was an Atheist, I completely identified with the insanity of the movie Ichi the Killer, which has no higher spirituality. It's basically just animals acting on impulse. In the case of Ichi the Killer, he was a literal incel who got an erection from killing people. Kakihara was basically a prototype Heath Ledger Joker, but even more nihilistic than Ledge's Joker was.
Kakihara was so badass to me as a 20 yr old kid. (Although I studied occult at the time, I did not resonate with any gods so at the time I thought it was just pure metaphor. Rather than a mixture of both metaphor & metaphysical reality.)
I even own the manga Ichi the Killer. I'm not really into Ichi now, but I was at the time.
Miike made a lot of fun, dumb Yakuza movies that really show to you where Suda51 got part of his influence from.
Honestly the only Miike film I really like or consider as a classic is Audition, which can be considered crime I guess.
I actually bought that movie on a military base in the USA. That's how mainstream Japanese entertainment used to be during the early 2000s. It was everywhere like how currently that Korean corpo bullshit is everywhere. At least when Japan was popular, you were getting insane shit like Miike movies or the Kite uncensored anime as representations of entertainment from Asia. It was a different era back then because people in my age group (late 1970s - early 1980s) were extremely edgy. I still am. It's weird to me how soft, gay, boring & lame that the younger gens are. Even Boomers are way more edgy than your avg zoomer and Lefty millennial.
There's a color gang tv drama called IWGP Ikebukuro West Gate Park. I'm friends with the half Mexican gangster who brought colored gangs to Japan. Recently his uncle added me on facebook lol and his uncle also calls himself a gangster ギャングスタ. IWGP was really good, but this was back in 2002 I think? So it was back when Jap entertainment still had plenty of edge and wasn't neutered by Americans yet.
Another good one is Kyoki No Sakura. It's sorta street gang related and the ost reflects that. I love all of the jazz songs by Juju. It sounded like jazz music that you would hear in Killer7.
There's actually a stream site that has plenty of that Jap Crime Horror

It even has David Lynch films which imo are Crime films, they just drift way more into the metaphysics and show demonic influences.

Twin Peaks itself was originally planned to be a show about Elite Human Trafficking but of course a show like that would never get green lighted but that type of subject matter actually was common in 1980s ova anime like Riding Bean, Mad Bull, or Angel Cop.
That's why I hate it when anime gets grouped up with Transgender because what the fuck do any of these toons have to do with troons? Most of the anime that I grew up with were talking about real life crime and conspiracies. Angel Cop went so hardcore with it that the original plot is banned and rewritten kinda like how the book Behold a Pale Horse has been been banned and rewritten.
Troons rarely engage in any media that actually deals with real issues, crime & conspiracy. They're basically just into civil rights bullshit like X-men. I love X-men when I was a kid, but that's mostly because they were sexy as hell back in the 90s with idealized proportions.
Or course The Sopranos is good crime fiction and prob one of the best overall. It takes awhile for it to click but I got hooked when the hot stripper chick got beat to death.
What I really like about Sopranos is that a lot of it is focused on spirituality but they're not in your face with it. Chris's actor seems to be the only actor from that show who's smart enough to notice how metaphysical Sopranos is, probably because he's a Buddhist.

I'm sure that Tony himself also knew that, but he came across as a pretty smart guy to begin with.
FYI I usually only post during the beginning or end of the month. Although I am annoyed by that "vidya essay" thread because some meme faggot thinks he's clowning me (by judging me based off his retarded younger millennial social norms. WTF do I have to do with Elfen Lied? I'm the generation that came from Don't Go in the House (it stars Patsy from Sopranos), Last House on the Left, Hellraiser 1 & 2, Boss Nigger (that's the name of the actual movie. My era never censored themselves. I only do now, because I'm forced to by a bunch of clown kids who are much younger than I.), Sonny Chiba's Street Fighter etc., and that's just the live action movies.
Our cartoons looked like Ninja Scroll, Heavy Metal, Golgo 13, Ghost in the Shell, Kite, Violence Jack, Mezzo Forte, Battle Royale Highschool, Bio Fiend, etc. Most of that shit a tranny could never handle because none of the anime I listed is cute. (Well ok troons would and do like Ghost in the Shell, which is mostly ugly but Motoko is hot and cute.) All of these toons just reflected the grimy hyper violent reality that late 70s & early 80s kids lived back when street violence used to be common.
I'm the generation that was into practically everything that Tarantino championed (Not that I give a shit about Tarantino. He just has mostly similar tastes, except I think that 80s films were the best gen of films, while he thinks they're the worst.), yet that dumb thread is trying to compare me with trannies? I'm telling ya man, Millennials are hardcore possessed by that troon shit to the point that they acquiesce everything to troons. My era the late 1970s & early 1980s cohort revolved around high crime, gangsters & mobster culture and even our slang is just an extension of drug dealer code speak. Unlike with faggy 1990s Millennials whose culture seems to revolve around trannies & gay people, because even their slang originated from prison gays., but whatever. I'll respond to that essay thread, in its own thread.
