So, there is a Japanese game publisher, game developer some people might know about, it's called HUMAN. Now, diehard Suda51 fans know about two wrestling games and Syndromes. I decided to go an extra mile, or rather a kilometer, sorry USA people. Or should I say, Humans, eh?
So, I ain’t that well-versed in Japanese devs of early 8-bit era of gaming, so spare me some braincells here. HUMAN itself begins around PC Engine and Super Famicom 16-bit era (that’s 1990s for those who born after iPhone), but they existed before under different names. Their main titles were some sports games publish under Bandai, using some various gaming accessories, which was pretty innovative for its time. They made a lot of anime crap too, but also some bangers. They’re also tried a lot of different stuff to see where it would or would not land. Outta all Famicom games made under early HUMANs I’d say Kabuki Fighter game is the one to play, if you wanna have a good time at all. The rest…oh well, it’s rough.
Things would drastically change with 16-bit era, when they went full force with their gaming ideas. Bunch of series originated on 8-bits, but took off really here. And that’s where they started to publish games as HUMAN Creative Group, later changing to HUMAN Entertainment. So, we have HUMAN, HuneX and Bandai. Why three? You see, early HUMAN people (sounds dumb af) worked on anime games and some sports games for Bandai. Latter on those guys went on to become HuneX and some gamedev part of Bandai to work on some shit-anime titles and whatnot. That’s quite an abrupt story from what I gather. Toward 2000s HUMAN decided to commit suicide and went bankrupt. Suda took off with few people as well as others, who was still curious about making games. Spike would be the one to carry legacy of HUMAN, if you may say. There were also bunch of other people, who went on working in their own studios or joined some other companies.
So, I was curious about these middle-ground HUMAN titles on Super Famicom and PlayStation era, before they died off. They also worked on titles for bunch of other consoles and portable stuff all the way thru the 90s, but there are far and few between, so I’ll spend my time covering only interesting titles here. If you wanna dig for shit, knock yourself out, there are plenty of it out there waiting for you. So, here we go, here are some other HUMAN games from 90s that are somewhat interesting and give you a better understanding of overall lineup of a company in that timeline. I’ll give a basic summary on each title and then I’ll give my honestly brutal opinion. Now, I ain’t like most gamers, or most of USA gamers. I despise gaming and can’t stop playing, pretty pathetic. So, take me super seriously, unless you wanna play each title for yourself and have your own point of view.
SFC GAMES
Human Grand Prix
Yes, you play as humans in this game (sorry, I’ll joke again). Gameplay here is MOD7-like. Driving these cars quite tough. Seems like some force always turning you away from the road. However, as a kart racer it’s pretty accurate in that regard. It’s like you’re fighting with controls more than you race other drivers. Collision launches you into free fall. This is serious sim racer. There are three modes: test drive, race and championship. You can play with your friend.
Human Grand Prix 2
Okay, 2nd game is much better in terms of controls. You don’t have to fight your gamepad, it plays like typical Mario Kart now. HUD was moved down, so now you can see clear blue sky. Overall, it’s a good QoL upgrade, however difficulty is still high as ever. I’d say play this one if you care at all.
Human Grand Prix III - F1 Triple Battle
More like tripple cock in your ass! Again, overall presentation is better this time. You can play up to 3 players now, hence the title. For some reason there is no music. I guess, serious racing here. There is also a new time attack mode and game TALKS now too.
Human Grand Prix IV - F1 Dream Battle
Whaddayaknow, they added cutscenes this time around. There are two types of championships now. Looks like 2nd and 3rd game. They added some track elevation mechanics as well as weather effects. Dream Mode is about taking part in championships of 92 to 95 year.
Overall, judging by 4 formula games, you can say they confidently made. So, there is 1st one and three variations of 2nd, if you were to say that way. After few laps I wouldn’t say gameplay is exciting… But F1 fans should approve.
Human Baseball
Again, you play baseball as humans (who would’ve guessed…). Two game modes: championship and one match. At times it’s hard to guess ball’s trajectory, but other than that plays like typical baseball from its time era.
Dream Basketball - Dunk & Hoop
Despite the title, you play as humans in this game (I know, I know…). This one has back view of the field instead of side view as its usual for the genre. Plays alright, can’t say anything bad about this one.
Super Formation Soccer
It’s a FUCKING FOOTBALL, you morons! You use foot to kick the ball. Foot-Ball. Sucker… Yeah, Sucker. Blowjob Simulator 1991. Anyways, this is... Football with back view, two modes: championship and one match. Gotta admit, first 5 minutes were quite intense, I’d say I like this one.
Super Formation Soccer II
Same fucking game, but gameplay now a bit faster. And they added more pictures.
Super Formation Soccer 94
This one has World Tour, League and Championship. I don’t care what’s the difference. I couldn’t figure out menus, maybe game is bugged or something.
Super Formation Soccer 94 - World Cup Final Data
This one is kinda like a DLC for the last game. It’s about World Cup of 1994. Now you can kick the ball all the way from one goalkeeper to another. Insane.
Super Formation Soccer 95 - della Serie A
This one only about Italian league. Also, they added voices in the game. Animations less stiff and game runs faster, which is also a plus.
Super Formation Soccer 96 - World Club Edition
This time around you can play as any world team. This one must be hyper 200% speed football. At times ball flies faster than pinball. There are two editions of this game, other than the box art, there is no difference, I dunno what’s the gimmick with that.
Overall Formation Suckers are pretty much the same game. Cuz they made it right the first time around.
Tadaima Yuusha Boshuu Chuu Okawari
Quite strange RPG if I ever saw one. Basically, you walk with throw of the dice. Too fucking complicated, couldn’t figure it out.
Dragon's Earth
This one is not developed by HUMAN, i think ANIMAL did it. Japanese title pronounced as Duragon Assu, which I find funny, anyways it’s a incomprehensible RTS game. You pick people and send them conquer lands and towns. However, they almost always get stuck in terrain, pretty difficult to control them. And speed they traveling with is beyond slow. And with 5 fps gameplay, well, you don’t wanna even try it. Not very interesting game, but the cover for Dragon’s Ass is great!
Waku Waku Ski Wonder Shoot
This game is about racing on ski. Seems like a F1 engine game to me. Tracks short and gameplay is enjoyable. Game seems to be set in some Waku Qaku setting. I know nothing about it.
Super Final Match Tennis
Title of this game is so boring, every time I need to look it up I forget how its called. Well, duh, it’s a Tennis, looks good. There are lots of tennisers (sportpeople?), you can pick a field. However, camera jumps around hectic. Not very useful feature.
Taekwon-Do
This one is quite interesting fighting game based around Korean martial arts. You can even play in Korean language aside from Japanese. From what I gather, we have some stats and few moves we can pull off. Some moves can knock out opponent faster than other. And some other have resistance too. Some moves work better than other. At time it’s clear why you won or lost. Or I just didn’t figure it out. Sometimes you knockout opponent in one hit. Sometimes you hit him 100 times with no result. There is also 2 x-axis to jump between, kinda like Samurai Showdown or GG Isuka, and you can attack interdimentionally too. I have no idea what’s are the Take-One-Do rules, but remembering from TEKKEN, all you do is use your legs. Game is fast and intense. Quite deep and thorough fighting game. Story mode seems to be insane too.
Firemen
House is burning, we gotta stop it! I died on the 5th floor after half an hour of gameplay. Very fun game, you fight flaming vacuum cleaners. It’s also seeming like game is taking place in one of Twin Towers, cuz they’re in the manual of the game. And the building seems to be quite tall… Imagine they predicted everything…
Clock Tower
Gotta admit, I’m not a big fan of horror games. Real life scary as is, not like I’m carving for more… Cursor controls aren’t very good, I guess it was innovating for its time, who knows. We walk around the house, searching for something, pick up some items… From what I understand, we gotta save friends and escape the mansion. But slowly walking aimlessly and search for the right items in game where some random midget with scissors can kill you in one hit, isn’t the brightest idea… These kinds of games I like to explore in my own pace.
Septentrion
Ship is sinking and we gotta get out! You have ONE hour to rescue everyone and make it out. Fire – kills you. Drop from the great height – kills you. Chandeliers – kills you. I mean, knocks you out for a 5 minute, but that’s a penalty. Whole ship looks the same (I mean, duh, they all look the same irl as well) and it’s easy to get lost. There is a map in the game, but it not helping one bit. Also boat spins 360 every so often, so you really be struggling figuring out your escape route. Unless you play this game 24/7 for 10 years. You can pick your character. They all start in different locations. Overall, if you want to escape (that’s the goal of the game) and fuck over all the other survivors, you can do that. Other people like to talk a whole fuckin lot and not very cooperative. You need to complete some fetch quest in order for them to join you. These fucks often get stuck and rarely follow you, so you have to get back and pick them up. You waste a lot of time doing that. Meanwhile, damn ship is going down and flipping all over. You 10 times forgot where you were going.
I doubt you can even get close to getting a good ending in this game. I barely got out on my own. Very cruel and very innovative game.
If you want to know more, I’ve wrote whole damn post about it - viewtopic.php?t=591
Super Fire Pro Wrestling
What can you even say about it? It’s a hardcore wrestling game with bootleg fighters. Instead of Hulk Hogan you’ll get Bulk Logan and so on. Playing against CPU is a deathwish. You have 3 types of attacks: weak, medium, strong. To win the match you have to wear out opponent and lay him down for 3 seconds. Strategy is simple: hit him with weak for a while, then land some medium attacks and finish off with strong ones. In clutch you can do a move using “direction + button”.
Gimmick part of FPW is that fighters have strong and weak stats. I guess Japanese took merican wrestling seriously… Just watch Tiger Mask 2 anime, it’s brutal. One of the crucial issues with early titles are camera. You have no idea what axis you’re at and where your attack will land. Hit detection is awful. And when there is 4 or more people at the same time, its just a pixel mess. Music is cheerful.
Super Fire Pro Wrestling 2
Same fuckin game.
Super Fire Pro Wrestling III - Final Bout
Game now looks better, but it’s hard regardless.
Super Fire Pro Wrestling III - Easy Type
Game was so hard they had to lower difficulty by releasing 2nd edition of the game. That’s my only explanation.
Super Fire Pro Wrestling Special
This one feature story mode that Suda wrote. You play as Morio Smith, a young boy who wants to become a wrestler. On your way you meet new friends, but by the end you lose your girl, your car, your friend. And with that your only way out is Cobain style.
Game looks better than ever, gameplay is more smooth, better music and overall presentation. I like this one.
Super Fire Pro Wrestling - Queen's Special
Sadly, there is women equality rights, so female league only for females. HUMAN did two woman wrestling games. Graphics looks good and animations are alright.
Fire Pro Joshi - All Star Dream Slam
Woman vs woman 2. Shitty graphics in this one.
Super Fire Pro Wrestling X
Eksu is the last wrestling game for SFC. Graphics now are completely different from the previous titles. This is how Fire Pro will look till our days. Its overall better game, but I’m not a big fan of fat looking people… I think they overblown them here…
Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium
2nd edition of X.
And with that that’s pretty much all SFC titles from HUMAN. Fire Pro is better played with friends. CPU is brutal. Other than that, I’d recommend playing Firemen, Septentrion and Waku Faku Skii game. The rest is either shit or for sports fans only.
MEGA DRIVE GAMES
For Mega Drive there were 3 titles from HUMAN. Ultraman game, F1 game and Fire Pro. Not much. Ultraman is port of shitty SFC fighting game. HUMAN Gran Pricks, which is called here Fastest 1 is nothing to write home about. Screen is small and game boring. Thunder Pro Wrestling Retsuden looks like shit and gameplay is weird for Fire Pro… That’s all for that console.
The other big console for HUMAN was PC Engine, but its pretty much same games as for SFC, with few exceptions that I don’t care about. So… jog on.
The last bit I wanted to talk about is HUMAN PS1 titles. There are bunch of em. Towards the 2000s HUMAN died and people run away from the company. Half of the games are ports or same games from SFC, so keep that in mind. However, with 3d graphics there are bunch of new cool games as well. I skip ones that I don’t give a fuck about so, list isn’t complete by any means. I’m also skipping same games as SFC ones.
PS1 GAMES
The Firemen 2: Pete & Danny
Sequel to Firemen game. Basically, same game with more stages to water. Very good.
Standby Say You!
What a dumb fuckin title. This some sort of FMV adventure game about voice over people trying to make anime. Yeah… Its weird one. I wish I could get into it, but for now I’ll keep it on hold.
Puppet Zoo Pilomy
Some puzzle game about animals. I don’t get it. WHERE ARE HUMANS??
Logic Puzzle Rainbow Town
Another puzzle game picross shit, seems to be fine, didn’t get far into it.
Twilight Syndrome: Tansaku-hen and Kyūmei-hen
First Syndrome game, boring ass shit about Japanese schoolgirls got spooked by nothing in the forest at night.
Twilight Syndrome Special
This is just first two games in one edition. Nothing special about it.
Fire Pro Wrestling Iron Slam '96
A bit clunky 3D wrestling game, with move to 3D they tried… Oh well, they tried.
Blue Breaker games
Some anime game, I know nothing about it. There are more than one.
No-appointment Gals Olympos
Another adventure story heavy game about some anime girls.
The Conveni!
It’s a convenient store simulation game. They made 3 of em. You manage over the store, but 90% of the time you sit AFK, earning money. There is also variations of it as The Drug Store, The Famiries and etc, different games, but gameplay the same.
Moonlight Syndrome
One of important Suda games. Fucked up shit where schoolboys set themselves on fire, commit suicides and fight against gods. Who greenlit this shit??? How Kaz Hirai allowed it??
Sound Qube
Puzzle game about that 4 mb, if I remember correctly.
First Kiss Story
Another HuneX anime game about shit.
Vanguard Bandits
Well regarded RPG game, haven’t played it, seems fine if youre into this genre.
Mikagura Shoujo Tanteidan
Detective club anime story heavy games. There are two of them. Both are four fuckin discs releases.
Mizzurna Falls
Twin Peaks for PS1. Highly ambitious game with very poor execution. Game that you really wish to play, but cannot due to game being complete shit. English translations provide 0 help since game is notorious for convoluted quests and events triggering conditions. I share same feeling with this one as other ghm fans share with some questionable ghm titles with absolute worst fuckin gameplay you can find on this planet.
Puzzle Mania
Bunch of puzzle games. Good shit.
Neko-Zamurai
Youre a cat in a catland in Edo Japan. Cheesy game. It’s a 3 disc adventure game with RPG elements. From what I know, there is no translation.
Septentrion: Out of the Blue
This is remake reshit of SFC game. Now it in 3D. Game suffers from same issues as Mizzurna. I really want to play this one like a normal game, however bad camera, convoluted mechanics, time limit, no pause for text and instant reaction time makes it a tough recommendation. However, music and atmosphere is great. Please fuckers, if you read this, do the translation of it.
Fire Pro Wrestling G
G stands for Goichi. I bet, I think. This one is normal Fire Pro as you could see on SFC.
Zipangujima: Unmei wa Saikoro ga Kimeru!?
Some board RPG game about Edo Japan. Haven’t played it.
Bakusō Dekotora Densetsu
Okay, HUMAN is DEAD now. This one released as Spike I think at this point. There are also two more games from them after death of HUMAN on PS1. Some horror game as well as 3D Syndrome game. Okay, Dekotora is a funny game. This is racing game about trucks racing each other on the highway. In Japan truck style modelling is like bosozoku, but with trucks. There is a shout button, where you can scream at your opponent. I’d recommend you to play it.
With that I think this is most of HUMAN titles I can waste my time on. There are bunch of others that I didn’t count and include for all the others consoles and handhelds of its time. I can’t track down every developer that worked on every game and tell you significance of each, so you’ll have to do it on your own. For the PS1 recommendations I’d say, play some Firemen and Dekotora. If you want some immersion, try Mizzurna and Septentrion. Play those for the vibes, not to beat 100%.

HUMAN Pre-Historic Era
kill the past
Re: HUMAN Pre-Historic Era
Great list. I remember playing Vanguard Bandits back on the PS1. Got all 5 ending including the one with the "Tic-Tak"(some Working Designs translation bullshit.)
I've always want to play the "RPG" Blue Breaker. Not that shitty looking fighting game, though.

Re: HUMAN Pre-Historic Era
That FMV game looks fun to me, 428 vibes.
