I'm going to slowly translate and put together Suda's comments on all of the games from the Suda51 complete book.
You can find the start here:

I rarely use social media and don't really like it but it seemed like a decent way to share the stuff and sort of keep it in one place. That way I can just translate a comment or two whenever I feel like it and then add it to the thread. (At least I think that's how it works.)

First bunch are FSR and SotD which you will have already seen as I put them in my other translations.
The new ones are the Black Knight Sword comments. Will add more as I get around to them.

Don't really know what I'm doing design-wise, so apologies if they look crap.

I don't mind the design at all, but if you really want it to look cool we happen to have a couple of graphic designers here on the site that I believe would happily help you.

I am very impressed with all the work you've been doing, sorry I haven't mirrored your translations on the site yet but I need to update those pages fully and that takes some time.
(For reference, the Killer is Dead page I wrote a week or so ago took me two full days, and that's when I had nothing else to do. I'm actually quite busy recently just trying to figure out how I'm supposed to word & produce my payment invoices lol. Figuring out shit like that in Italy is so difficult I might as well be running scams, and my accountant is not being very helpful. I recently had to change my job description, even though the actual job I do, is pretty much the same.)
Another interesting tidbit that I came across in the Suda51 book is that Black Knight Sword was made with the second draft of Shadows of the Damned as a base. The opening where the main character has hanged himself comes from there.
I was actually aware of it, though I forgot where I actually heard of it. It wasn't mentioned in any of the english parts of the Art of GHM as well, was it?
Either way, I was planning to write an article on how the various drafts of Kurayami were adapted eventually. You can see a placeholder for it here.
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/other-ghm/
The pitch you translated really helped me understand some more things though.

We know that there were five scripts for Kurayami/Shadows of the Damned, I do wonder where that one falls on the timeline. It does feature gun fights which as we know were introduced after the initial pitch so it's probably not the very first draft.

The little spirit in G's gun is actually what eventually became Paula in SOTD, while the gun became a skull dick joke lol. You can also see a similar idea in Black Knight Sword with the Hellebores, who turn into swords instead.

At this point we have four out of five scripts, although Kurayami Dance was probably altered from whichever draft it was eventually adapted from so it's probably closer to six depending on how precise you want to be about it. If I had to guess, the very first pitch is probably the one that we know the least of (the one where G would have no weapons and would have to fight the dark with a torch). I doubt it was much different from this other pitch we have though.

I had forgotten but you're right, it was in that book too. I guess it wasn't anything new after all.

Not sure really. The book simply uses the term 初期 (early/initial) and doesn't really elaborate beyond that. It could have been the first draft to be fleshed out to that degree, maybe?

Take your time. I'm happy if you put them on there at all.
Trust me I'm happier to have someone translating stuff for free. Translation work has been extremely slow specifically because we'd have to contract people, and I've gone through several financial emergencies the past year, and while Qish was able to help in the past and Rake contributed more recently, it mostly fell on my shoulders. (Which is also why I only recently started writing full articles again. I haven't exactly been in a positive mindset. I'm not in one right now either, but at least I'm not working all day lol.)

If you want, I can actually give you a list of stuff that you might be interested in. Keep in mind though that I'm not asking you to specifically translate this or that. I'm very anal about asking people to do something when monetary compensation is not involved, so always keep in mind you can do whatever the fuck you want with it.

I just so happen to have a whole list of stuff that you might have never come across in normal research. Not knowing Japanese, I don't even know how interesting any of it is, if it's worth translating at all.

The Moonlight Syndrome Deep Psyche Files have a bunch of untranslated character blurbs and columns:
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/201 ... che-files/

Some character files in the Moonlight Syndrome Complete Data Files:
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/201 ... ata-files/

There's a Q&A in this one:
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/201 ... ete-guide/

And then there's this book which I just have no clue about. I don't know if there's any interesting content worth translating at all. BMJ sent us the scans though:
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/201 ... uide-book/

The old official website for The Silver Case has character profiles, a Q&A with Suda, story analysis by Sagara Nobuhiko etc. I haven't had any of it translated yet. The Q&A is the most interesting thing imo since it actually goes on to explain certain things that are mentioned and never expanded upon in the game (such as deathfiling).
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/202 ... anslation/

The old official website for FSR has a short biography for Suda51 and some story analysis both written by Sagara Nobuhiko:
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/202 ... -archives/

We mostly had everything translated from the GPara fansite but if you wanna take a look there's also that:
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/202 ... anslation/

This Famitsu interivew was also already translated fully (or for the most part, I skipped over the first page because it just seems like a description of the game) but I'm not sure if you know about it at all:
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/202 ... interview/

There's a Q&A with Suda on Killer7 on this guide:
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/202 ... ete-guide/

A friend of mine also made a rough translation for a No More Heroes side story. It's by no means perfect (by his own admission) so you might want to look into that as well:
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/202 ... ers-bible/

That's really all I can think of off the top of my head. Keep in mind I'm not asking you to translate all of it, or even any of it. I'm just giving you a bunch of suggestions.
Not sure really. The book simply uses the term 初期 (early/initial) and doesn't really elaborate beyond that. It could have been the first draft to be fleshed out to that degree, maybe?
My guess is that it's pretty much the same as the initial pitch, but with the gun aspect added on. It does feel like a late addition because the gun spirit is never brought up again in the whole text lol. I'll elaborate more on my article once I actually get down to write it.

All good. To be honest, I can definitely understand the appeal of getting paid for doing stuff, but I still see myself as very much an amateur, and I probably wouldn't feel right charging someone. I'm using this as practice in a way, but I also want to share stuff with other fans. Games with smaller fan bases obviously don't get as much attention on the translation of materials and stuff, so I like to contribute to at least Suda stuff. (Some of the other games I love would probably have like 5 people interested in something I'd translate.)

Thanks. There's obviously a ton of stuff out there, but trying to work out what is worth doing can be difficult. Personally, my biggest interest would be story type stuff, but I know many people like learning about development and things like that.

As you can tell, I've focused so far on stuff in the Suda51 complete book since I have it (and haven't actually read it all anyway). Right now I'm doing the comments from those books mainly because I can just do a quick one whenever without a large time commitment. I also wanna help you with the Blood+ stuff, of course.

Beyond that, I might look into some of these once I have more time. Though I probably won't do any sydrome stuff until I actually play those games.
There's a Q&A with Suda on Killer7 on this guide:

Just to note. That Q&A is actually with the producer, Hiryoyuki Kobayashi.

I updated the FSR fanbook page to include your translation and archives for all the available stuff. I noticed Earthrealmer deleted their account so I put the scans up on archive.org as well. I haven't really delved into the content of your translation right here but that's because I'm going to go into it in the actual game analysis since it doesen't make much sense without the context surrounding it.
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/201 ... l-fanbook/

I'm gonna update the Complete Suda51 Book page as well but that's gonna take me a bit more time.
Thanks. There's obviously a ton of stuff out there, but trying to work out what is worth doing can be difficult. Personally, my biggest interest would be story type stuff, but I know many people like learning about development and things like that.
By story stuff, do you mean interviews and other pieces where they discuss the story of the games, or do you mean actual story content?

I think by this point most story content has been translated. The Moonlight Syndrome truth files were translated by FFT translations along with the Silver Case novel, Kurayami Dance and RGB were translated by Falions, Hand in Killer7 was translated ages ago, and the Killer7 & No More Heroes side-stories have incomplete translations but it's better than nothing. I'm pretty sure Suda's side-story for Snatcher was also translated at some point.

Off the top of my head, actual untranslated story content is limited to the second half of Moonlight Syndrome, Blood+ ONK (which we're working on), the Killer is Dead original gameplan, and this incomplete episodic story that Suda wrote for Famitsu years ago, Akai Onna.
https://www.famitsu.com/serial/fable51/

There's also this short passage from one of the FSR soundtracks which I forgot to mention earlier, called One Island, One Resort and One More Episode which according to your notes might actually be a homage to one of the stories that inspired FSR in the first place.
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/201 ... xing-time/

If you mean interviews where the story is discussed, that's mostly what I focused on as well with the GPara FSR stuff and the famitsu interview which I mentioned earlier.
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/202 ... anslation/
https://www.paradisehotel51.com/sin/202 ... interview/

The Hand in Killer7 interview was also translated relatively recently (as in within the past 5 years. I've been doing this since 2006 so everything that isn't from the ancient past and inscribed into a sequoia tree is "recent" to me.) and that one gets into quite a bit of story details.
http://www.sceneryrecalled.com/trans/k7int.htm

A lot of the interviews that fftranslations released also delve into the story of moonlight syndrome quite a bit.
http://fftranslations.atspace.co.uk/syn/index.html

Off the top of my head, if I had to raccomend something that actually has relevance to the story, I would point you to the silver case Q&A since everything else seems to be from the perspective of Sagara Nobuhiko who obviously wouldn't have any hard answers on the game's setting. I mean obviously that's interesting as well to read the analysis of a GHM employee, but I wouldn't consider it as important.

https://web.archive.org/web/20050226133 ... verqa.html

Obviously I am glad you're focusing on the Complete Book for now. I agree with you that Suda's comments are what you should focus on specifically, for the same reason. Other perspectives might be interesting but he is the only one who seems to have some hard answers (except for maybe Masahi Ooka, which as far as I know only ever gave one interview in total lol.)

Yeah don't worry about that. It's gonna take me ages to record the whole game and time subtitles. As you know I already did all the research on it back in October but a full playthrough is still somewhere between 15 and 20h (I can't remember off the top of my head) and timing subtitles just takes forever in general. It'll be done when it's done, nobody outside of a very tiny circle of people cares about it anyway lol.

I think you will like the game though, outside of the anime tie-in stuff it's a lot more similar to pre-2007 GHM than anything else that came after.
Just to note. That Q&A is actually with the producer, Hiryoyuki Kobayashi.
Thanks I must have made a wrong assumption back when I wrote that page and then just went with my notes for the rest of time, I'll correct it at some point
(Some of the other games I love would probably have like 5 people interested in something I'd translate.)
I'm genuinely curious, can you name a few?

Thank you, that's what I was thinking of, honestly I never got around to watch it because it doesen't seem super interesting.

I also forgot that that anime short Suda wrote for an expo was also subtitled at some point:

Stuff like this may be cool to look at. Silver case is my favourite Suda game and I think it's his best by far. Though I also think that game is one of the best at having most of the answers in the game for you to piece together yourself.
Obviously I am glad you're focusing on the Complete Book for now. I agree with you that Suda's comments are what you should focus on specifically, for the same reason. For each game, it seems to be just general info and then a few of Suda's comments which are the interesting stuff. There are a bunch of long interviews and then the short story/draft stuff. Red/blue/green out, killer is dead (birkin) and SotD plot are done, which would leave the Killer is dead plot and there's also a draft proposal thing for Moonlight Syndrome (pg 97-105).

Towards the end there's also a section with comments from people who have worked with Suda, including Ooka. As for Ooka, I came across this recently:

https://www.4gamer.net/games/341/G034117/20161109032/

But it may be similar stuff to your link, since it was around the same time.
I'm genuinely curious, can you name a few?
Resonance of Fate is one. I think it has a really interesting story that I don't think anyone has really gotten into, at least not back when I played it. I searched countless used book stores in Japan trying to track down the guidebooks for that game.

Another one would be Zanki Zero. This game was mostly ignored due to a censorship thing and the fact that people expected it to be Danganronpa when it's nothing like it (way better). Gameplay is really unique. It's like a first person dungeon crawler, but real time with an emphasis on managing survival systems. There's also a system where the way you die gives you skills to mitigate that in the future.
I think the story is excellent, especially in regard to the character backgrounds. Each dungeon is based around trauma from a character's past and you learn what happened as you go through the dungeon. In my opinion it has massive kill the past vibes, though obviously a pretty different style to Suda's stuff. I could wax poetic about this game all day, but no one will give a shit.

I updated the Complete Book page to include your translations and a better description of the book's content, let me know if I got anything wrong.
It doesn't really give you the answers that you want but I think it just helps you put some of the game's mysteries into perspective. I was hoping for more to be honest, but probably wasn't gonna happen.
It actually did help me piece together some things. For example, I did not really think about the fact that time moves linearly for Toriko and Christina, as if their sections were taking place one after the other, as opposed to Sumio's time loop. (Which I don't think is actually a time loop at all)
It actually ties together with something I've been thinking for a while, that is to say, that Toriko is the equivalent of what the 25th ward describes as an "Observer" (which is actually a misnomer taken from the Regional Adjustment Bureau chain of command. Observers actually are just employees tasked with overseeing postman operations. Kurumizawa uses the term to indicate his own situation where he ascended humanity as a digital man that exists as information, and is thus an "observer that cannot be observed".

Toriko seems to be the same exact type of entity as Kurumizawa, which is why she can interact directly with Sundance Shot (whom she calls Kamui Uehara, but he doesen't recognize that name, because Kamui Uehara is a name that the TRO/CCO alliance came up with after his death lol.)
Kurumizawa also claims to be in contact with an ancestral Kamui Uehara that exists beyond humanity, and possibly predates humanity.

The fact that both Toriko & Kurumizawa perceive time differently seems to indicate as much. As in that they're fourth dimensional beings. What we see of them in the tridimensional world is the equivalent of a shadow, like the shadow of a man appears two-dimensional on a wall.

It also confirmed what I was thinking since forever, that Sundance Shot exists within the Sumio collective but he doesen't actually have a physical form. (Which is why Toriko calls him Kamui. Kamui Uehara is also an external personality which goes on to overwrite your original one.)

Why does Toriko appear to be Tetsugoro's daughter? I got no fucking clue lol. Reading the in-game guidebook, you might think that Toriko is actually the maiden who prayed for the Island to be saved, guiding the Japanese stranger to the monument, but there is also a possibility that that passage is referring to Catherine/Katharine. (Whom the new version of TSC seems to confirm is actually a spirit.) Granted it's also possible that Toriko and Catherine are one and the same, with Christina being Sumio (both their portraits are pink, their "voices" sound the same whenever Christina speaks.)

There is a chance that the real-life Toriko inherited the will of the Lospass maiden (who could be Catherine) much like Sumio (and eventually Step) would eventually inherit the will of the Sundance people, but it's also possible that Toriko just appears that way to Sumio, since we play as him.

The TSC timeline does seem to indicate that at some point Tetsugoro did travel to Lospass with his daughter.
https://thesilvercase.com/en/history.html
●“Mondo & Land”――Scheduled for the next game. Kusabi takes his daughter Toriko on vacation to a summer resort. There, he meets a man named Sumio Mondo. “Sumio”... That reminds him of a certain someone.
I just prefer to bring up this stuff in the actual analysis instead of posting it without context in the book page. I don't think there's any way to reach an absolute concrete answer though, much like you can't fully explain spirituality as a human being in the real world.
There's also two unused scripts within the Moonlight Syndrome game files themselves. There's a bunch of side stories based on scrapped chapters which I wonder how similar they are to the draft proposal. (I know you haven't played those games yet, I'm just wondering)
Resonance of Fate is one. I think it has a really interesting story that I don't think anyone has really gotten into, at least not back when I played it. I searched countless used book stores in Japan trying to track down the guidebooks for that game.

Another one would be Zanki Zero. This game was mostly ignored due to a censorship thing
LOL I actually have both games and I never played either. Resonance of Fate I always thought looked interesting, and I even bought a used copy for cheap, but I never ended up playing it. I think Jack has played it but I might be misremembering. The same thing happened to me with Folklore. I should just try running both on RPCS3.

Zank Zero I never ended up playing because I was going to play it with a certain person and chance never arose, so I just forgot about it until you brought it up. I wasn't too worried about the censorship considering it has a pc version and I'm sure it was fixed at some point.
I could wax poetic about this game all day, but no one will give a shit.
I would personally care about it, but I see your point. Most fans of "niche" games don't actually play them at all, or care about them. They're only interested in the label of "being into niche games" so they can put it on their twitter bio or something lol. (Which is partially why I'm not really part of any online community. Other than my, let's say "colorful" personality and opinions, which somehow always boil down to nuking the united states.)

It actually speaks to a higher problem in society, that is to say that most people only ever use their capability for language, to elevate their self esteem and (supposed) popularity. Which is how large groups are made to change their mind on a whim by televised & internet propaganda, just to fit in with the popular consensus.

Granted it's not their fault, that's what they've been mindbroken to think in school where you learn to only speak, to repeat your superior's words, and you are given high grades for mnemonically absorbing the information as it is given to you. If you refuse to they just waste even more years of your life, like you're in jail.
In other words, you spend all of your early life being taught to only speak in order to replicate someone else's speech, like a parrot, LOL!

In short, if you want to open a thread to talk about Zanki Zero or whatever's on your mind I wouldn't mind at all, and I'd probably be interested in reading it, but don't expect to ever get the type of attention you'd get in a 4chan thread or something. Although I do think that Krixxz played Zanki Zero; I think he brought up the censorship on the old forums, but I can't be bothered to check right now
